The Public School Committee Meeting 04
|

|
DAN (The Public School committee) met on Saturday, June 14 in its new configuration. Every 3 months one or two committee of the six committee members are replaced by members of the public. This month Caleb Waldorf joined, taking over for John Houck. When there’s a new version of the committee, the committee collectively writes a new statement outlining its interests, priorities, goals, etc. The first part of our meeting on Saturday we spent editing this position statement and deciding how to edit the statement. It will be posted in a few days. There is a tentative plan in place for a public event on June 29 at TELIC, in tandem with the opening of an exhibition by Tamala Poljak and Anna Oxygen, to let people know what is happening with the school in a physical place and to offer the opportunity to sign up for scheduled classes. There may be a Languages of Los Angeles class offered that day as well. There are currently no classes scheduled, but a lot of classes held up in logistical planning. Hopefully some of these get resolved by June 29. Finally, website design issues centered around having a regular email to announce new proposals and making it more clear where the list of offered classes are. How to gather material that’s generated in the classes (scans or photos of notes for example)? Also, what is to be done with old classes that haven’t generated any interest? (Answer: nothing, leave them on the list.) What should be done with classes that were attempted to be scheduled, but failed to generate enough interest to actually happen? (Answer: post a comment, which sends an email to everyone who is signed up that the interest list for the class is going to be cleared, so if they’re still interested, they need to actively sign up again. Then the interest list is cleared.) Finally, some minor lists to go on the left: newly proposed classes, offered classes, and a tag cloud of class description words. |
