This Saturday there looks to be an interesting free tour of the MacArthur Park neighborhood that will tie in nicely to the Specters of LA class, although it is unaffiliated with the Public School.  Recommended!

It was good to finally make it to the mixology class last night.  I just found out about this Tiki Farm exhibit opening reception at Luz de Jesus on Saturday (10/16) - apparently there will be free mai tais and some free foods and music, etc. etc.  And lots of tiki mugs.  Thought some of you might be interested.

After visiting Ooga Booga and Skylight, I can't find any of these books around, so we're going to print a few copies and you can pick one up on Saturday at our space at 951 Chung King Road if you want.

On Saturday, October 2 at noon, we'll be discussing "The Violence of Financial Capitalism" by Christian Marazzi. It provides an analysis of the current economic crisis through the lens of cognitive capitalism, proposing that the crisis is not the usual problem of a lack of growth, but rather that it is a consequence of a new form of accumulation.

The first half of the meeting will be a technical walkthrough of the main concepts, with a focus on the third chapter, "On the Becoming-Rent of Profit." For the second half of the discussion, we'll visit the opening quote from Deleuze: "It's not a question of worrying or hoping for the best, but of finding new weapons." What new weapons does this analysis help us create?
