This moderate 13-mile day hike will follow Broadway (present "Bright Light" pathway, once used as trade artery by the Lenape Indians) on a historical tour from Pearl Street to the bluff in Inwood Park where Manhattan was 'sold' to the Dutch. At scheduled stops—including Minetta Brook, Theatre Alley, Audobon Terrace, and Collect Pond, among others—we'll pause for readings from primary documents and retellings from collective memory.
Meet at 8am, Saturday, May 28, 2011, outside Fraunces Tavern at 54 Pearl Street; hiking time will be approximately 6 hrs, including lunch. Itinerary to be posted in advance.
