Independence Day

Organizing Committee:

On July 4th, 2009 we held a class at The Public School Los Angeles where we discussed The Coming Insurrection by The Invisible Committee. On July 4th, 2010 we launched a seminar in Berlin, There is nothing less passive than the act of fleeing, with a discussion of Introduction to Civil War by Tiqqun. In keeping with tradition, I propose that on July 4th, 2011, we discuss the recently released (by Semiotext(e)) This is Not a Program by Tiqqun.

yes, sounds like a good plan.

caleb, could you please bring the semiotext(e) version to the school on saturday? maybe we can quickly scan or copy it then?

hi all,

reading all of This is Not a Program, other Tiqqun texts and diving into Claire Fontaine is quite a lot to chew on! I’d say we use This is Not a Program as a launching off point to get into these other texts/ideas when it makes why doesn’t everyone come to class ready to lead a vector in a direction they want to take it and we'll just share facilitating duties and see what happens?

Does that sound good?

Hi! I'd also like to talk about the Human Strike & Jeune Fille if possible. It might be best to take things one at a time though... I think the idea of the human strike seems like a good intro, even if we don't go into the text much.

hello all,

i think it would be great to cover additional tiqqun texts!

for example, "das junge-mädchen", which is not translated into english yet but therefor it would be maybe nice to give a brief introduction or something.

I did a cursory comparison of that translation and the semiotext(e) version and the latter reads much better. i'll keep hunting for the newest translation and post it here if i can find it.

also, I'm wondering how everyone wants to approach the class/text: a close reading? something more casual? something more broad that covers additional Tiqqun texts?

I'm happy to facilitate, but perhaps we can divvy up the text or components of the discussion in advance?
