In this workshop, we will focus on technological innovations by activists and how they have allowed us to imagine new forms of energy, communication, and media that could go beyond the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The workshop will begin with a group discussion to develop context, finding patterns in the needs and ideals of local protests and examining how they fit in a larger historical narrative. Small working groups will then consider possibilities for specific areas of focus, and will present their thoughts to the larger group. The goal will be to propose methods and strategies for technologists to find points of collaboration on decentralized projects, and to find ways to foster long-term innovations for the future balance of power..

Amelia just sent me few questions we will be thinking around tomorrow. Let's start here and really look forward meeting you at the class!
1. what is a technology?
2. what is the role of technology in a protest?
3. how is the experience of protest different online and offline?
4. what are the disadvantages of using technology in protests?
5. is open source a good model for perpetuating protest technologies?
