Political Fiction: Opacity

+ Attending

As discussed in the last meeting, we will read and discuss Eduard Glissant's notion of 'Opacity' and the poetics of relations. I want to discuss the possible relation between opacity, eccentricity and  Deleuze and Guattari's becoming minor. We are creating a constellation...let's see how they work (or don't) together ...

I'll upload 'For Opacity' and Glissant' bio  on aaaarg.org very soon..

I haven't got my hands on a scanner to circulate "Among the Blobs", so maybe we can just read together sometime during the meeting?

I have one recommendation that I think would be a good compliment to Bulter and also maybe address some of the things we were discussing last week. It is a very short piece (like 6 pages) by Samuel Delany called "Among the Blobs" (in this collection). The story, which has Delany at his most experimental (in terms of structure/writing, not necessarily theme), pivots between a young man cruising for sex in NYC and another character on a far flung planet having an encounter with an unknown alien species. !!! It is a wild ride ;)

The other thing I mentioned in the previous session was the possibility of reading something by Eve Sedgwick from her book "Touching Feeling: Affect, Pedagogy, Performativity" to bring into the conversation her ideas about nondualistic thinking. Most of the book is on AAAAARG so we could try and read a chapter, but maybe it is too far off topic at this point? If anyone wants to take a look, the introduction is here.

Cheers,
