In honor of Halloween, we'll watch Irma Vep (1996) by Oliver Assayas.

Though not classified as a horror film, Assayas's interest in ruination and the impossibility of resolution betrays his preoccupation with horror.

The film's banality, and refusal to involve the supernatural emphasizes the paranormal nature of ordinary occurences. Also, kind of about vampires––should be fun!

Was poking around on the internet after the screening this weekend - and found out that Assayas married Maggie Cheung two years after the release of Irma Vep!  Makes the film feel a bit more like Une Femme est Une Femme no?  Maggie and Olivier being a new era Godard and Anna Karina?  We totally didn't remember to discuss Maggie's character having her real name, Irma Vep is totally Meta.  What a great film, thanks for reminding me.
