What Is Politics : Kairos as a Political Concept

+ Attending

Kairos (καιρός) is a Greek word indicating a special kind of time -- the fitting or opportune moment.  A privileged word in the history of philosophy, rhetoric, and theology, it has been taken up in recent philosophy by thinkers as varied as Giorgio Agamben and Toni Negri.

Through an etymological investigation which will proceed from ancient Greek poetry and the New Testament to the political writings of Lenin and Lukacs, we'll examine the contemporary political utility of kairos as a special kind of time -- the time of revolutionary change, the time when new things become possible.
