Yoga for Change

+ Attending

This class is open to anyone, but geared to people who are engaged in community, social justice and revolutionary projects. We are our best instruments for changing the world, and we need to sharpen our tools. Yoga can help release stress and pain, and increase well-being and focus. It also offers us a space for self-study, a way to see what we bring to the work we do and understand our patterns (those that help collective work and those that hinder it).

I’ve worked as an organizer and participatory journalist in several different social movements, and practiced yoga for more than 20 years, primarily in the Iyengar and Ashtanga styles. Because I love the practice and have gotten so much from it, I want to share it--so last fall I enrolled in the teacher-training program at Berkeley’s Niroga Institute ( Niroga sees yoga as a tool for community change and seeks to make the practice widely accessible. We are learning to teach classes that balance breathing, movement and meditation and work for students with different levels of yoga experience and physical ability. For more info:

Lastly -- if you have a yoga mat, please bring it to class !
