Quentin Meillassoux "Iteration, Reiteration, Repetition: A Speculative Analyses of the Meaningless Sign", Berlin 2012
This seminar will discuss central concepts of Quentin Meillassoux’s Philosophy and his implicit critique of post-modernity. The core concepts are: ancestral argument, correlationism, the absolute, hyper chaos and radical contingency. We will read 2 articles (which will be made available) and refer, when necessary, to his main publication “After Finitude”.
In the second part of the seminar, we will try to apply Meillassoux’s critique of the contemporary philosophy to the current situation of contemporary art. Suhail Malik’s notion of the “exit from contemporary art” which he recently presented in a series of lectures at the Artist’s Space will help us in this attempt.
There are no special requirements for this seminar, except: reading the required material; a general openness to new concepts; and a will to think by oneself.
