Workers Against Work

+ Attending

People who talk about revolution and class struggle without referring explicitly to everyday life...have corpses in their mouths. (Vaneigem)

Some of us are employed & heavily overworked. Some of us are unemployed & struggle to get by as the unemployment insurance runs out. Some of us have not been able to land a job because of some bullshit felony charge. In spite of our different situations in relation to employment, we all feel the pressure of the wage relation. It either controls directly or indirectly. And those of us who are pushed to the outskirts of Capital have the carceral State there at the ready to control what we do; what we do not do; or if we live at all.

Those who would push for full employment merely desire to perpetuate the drudgery of work & assumes that life is borne of employment. Or they would have us just become the very managers we so hate & collectivize exploitation.

Here we would discuss work, resistance to work and ultimately how to carry on without it.

For the first meeting we will discuss Kathi Weeks, "Imagining Non-Work" & Bob Black's "The Abolition of Work." These two texts may present a similar distaste for work but do so from two different positions. Contrasting them will help us deepen where we stand when it comes to work.
At this first meeting I would hope we could decide on the length of texts we would like to engage, as well as make other decisions aiming to build this as a collaborative group.
