Israel, Palestine, and the Current War

+ Attending

Join Ethan Pack for a talk and Q&A on the ongoing crisis in Israel & Palestine. We will try to parse out the sequence of events that led up to this current eruption in violence. In order to do so, it will be useful to embark on a broad (if speedy) history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with a focus on key moments in the last century that bear relevance on the current state of affairs. The talk will be open to questions throughout. We will also discuss the possibilities regarding a resolution, or worsening, of the conflict, in both the short and long term.

Pack recently returned from Israel, where he spent the first nine days of the current war. Pack also lived in Israel during the 2006 Lebanon War, and during part of the Second Intifada, from 2003-2004, among other times. Pack is a PhD student in Comparative Literature at UCLA, where he focuses on Hebrew and Arabic literature. He has also written on Israel and the Arab world in The Huffington Post, Ha'aretz, and The Forward.
