Following the first eight weeks of the public school for architecture residency at Congres | Recyclart in the spring of 2014, common room produced 'the public school for architecture brussels', a publication which documents the activities that took place during the residency and additionally provides a broader perspective on pedagogy and contextualizes the program in a larger discussion about architecture in the city.

On the occasion of the book’s publication, the public school for architecture brussels will reflect on the past activities of the school and its future. This event will consist of an introduction to the public school given by the public school committee and a brief presentation of the book by common room followed by an open discussion about how the school could work and what shape(s) it could take moving forward.

A group of volunteers called the public school committee meets periodically to review proposals and develop classes. The committee is responsible for shaping the ideological goals of the program through active discussion and engagement with the community of users with the idea that every few months, one or two volunteers leave the committee and one or two new volunteers join. In this way the operation of the school is able to remain flexible and responsive to the multiple interests of the entire body of students and teachers.

Please join us to find out more about the public school for architecture brussels and its future, and find ways that you can participate by making proposals, teaching classes, or joining the committee that helps run the school.
