You just need to Login or Register to make a class proposal. (Sorry about that, but it cuts down on spam and also helps with organizing)

Wrong text!

This post was made to the blog for Urban Foraging Group v3: Fall/Win Reading Group 2010-11

Hey...so...embarassing, but I gave the wrong text/author! It's Elaine Morgan, not Mary Douglas or P&D. But let's do Theweleit, Male Fantasies: it's on aaaaarg; I think it's roughly pp. 288-94. Sorry again, more likely than not it chalks up to the four hours of sleep I got the night before.

work/production/discussion

“work/production/discussion meeting”
Next Wednesday 7:00PM we are having our first work group meeting. This time we are going to dedicate one hour out of the reading group to get started, we can decide the rest then.
Here are some thoughts on why we need “working/production/discussion meeting”:
1. to open up our political theory to the potential politics of: image, sound, fiction, social production…
2. to rethink the space of/for: image, sound, fiction, social production (…) in society and politics
3. to explore and create new “social” by creating new situations through social production and the practice of image, sound and fiction (…)
4. to breach Capitalist definitions of “artist” or social producer, to take over/reform/rethink those definition and shift the social.

um, so like is there actually room in the first class?

I seem to have said i "can teach", b ut really i just wanna come participate in the class as a student (I mean, I can teach as well, but you know...)

anyhows, so there doesnt seem to be a cut off, even though it says only 20 students can participate.

Please advise as to we=hether I can come participate or not. I'd hate to come all the way there & not be able to be in the class.

thanks in advance. Aaron aka SpazeCraft http://sohnup.com

Art/Activism related example using a collective model

This post was made to the blog for Anti-State Communism Reading Group

Here is a link to this collective I mentioned once before:

http://www.chtodelat.org/

I would like us to look at them not necessarily for their form of art, but for their form of actions, the variety of activities they throw themselves into. If you scroll down to the “List of Activities” on the bottom left you’ll get an idea of some things they’ve done. Also take a look at their Newspaper.

I am not saying this is some kind of ideal form, but it’s a starting point. I am very much inspired by how they never seem to stop. The rest is up to us.

Local NYC example of activism using a collective model

[This isn't exactly political agitation but the organizing model is still pretty interesting. -Mike]

New York City's CAP Your Landlords or Bosses
Cooperative Action Project

Happy New Year! Hot on the heels of a successful Noise Demo, New York City is
back at it. We'd rather live in a world with no bosses or landlords, but until
then we're ready to CAP 'em.

The Cooperative Action Project (CAP) is working in the five boroughs, organized
using a model popularized by the folks in the Seattle Solidarity Network. CAP
is a network of volunteers in New York City that use collective action to win
battles against bosses and landlords. It was founded by a group of New York
City anarchists, but is open to all who are interested in our core principles:

1. We’re not a charity or a non-profit organization.
